Dementia Care Nova Scotia
Utilizing the Positive Approach to Care™ Framework to support those living with brain change.
At Always Home Homecare we utilize the Positive Approach to Care™ framework when working with clients who are navigating brain change. This method was created by Teepa Snow, one of the world's leading dementia experts, to change the culture of dementia care for the better.
Through this approach, our caregivers support those living with Alzheimer's or Dementia by meeting the clients where they are and doing with them rather than to them to get the tasks done. Our Client Care Manager will develop a dementia care plan to meet the needs of the person living with Dementia. The dementia care plan will evolve as the needs of the client progresses.
Our staff is trained by our Certified Positive Approach to Care Trainer and Coach where they learn hands-on techniques to be successful while caring for your loved one.
The Positive Approach to Care™ philosophy encourages Caregivers to:
- Respond to a person's change in cognition and abilities in a way that is not hurtful or offensive.
- Understand that common "reactions" to the person with dementia can become thoughtful "responses" that improve quality of life for everyone involved.
- Recognize that the person with dementia is "doing the best they can" and if something isn't working, it's the responsibility of the Caregiver to change their approach toward the person living with dementia.
- Be aware of environments surrounding a person with dementia and make changes as necessary.
We understand that navigating brain change is difficult for family members, and our team at Always Home is here to support you. Please contact us to learn more about our dementia care in the home for Nova Scotians.
