How much does home care cost?
November 02 2021What is Home Care?
Home care provides services to seniors and anyone who needs support to stay in their home and in their community. The services help to maintain a person’s independence, enrich their life in the environment that they are most familiar with, and help them to remain at home for as long as possible.
What Services are Provided?
Home care services are customized to the person’s needs. Services include companionship, transportation for groceries or to doctor’s appointments, personal care, housekeeping, respite care, medication reminders, and meal preparation, for example.
Many people are simply looking for companionship for their loved one to help overcome loneliness and isolation, and this is a service provided to many of our clients. A caregiver may play a game of cards or take the person to church or to visit family and friends. All caregivers providing transportation have a clean driver’s abstract and extra insurance.
We also provide respite care for a spouse or family member who is the primary caregiver of a loved one living with dementia or other chronic illnesses. If you're a caregiver, it’s critical that you get a break and time to yourself so that you don’t experience caregiver burnout.
In some cases, a doctor will only release a person from hospital if home care services are in place. We also have nurses on staff who can provide more advanced medical care if required.
The cost of Home Care in Nova Scotia
The cost of private home care depends on the number of hours the caregiver spends in the home with the client and will also vary with the level of service required to meet the needs in the home.
In Nova Scotia the median hourly rate for non medical home care is $32/hr plus HST. There are some private home care agencies that are more expensive than the average while there are agencies that charge below the median hourly rate.
How Does Someone Get Started with Home Care for Seniors?
The first step is to reach out to the office by phone at 902-405-4400 or email info@alwayshomecare.ca. We can arrange for a free, no obligation in-home assessment during which we will meet with you and the person who will receive the services. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to get a better idea of what services will be needed.
It’s not unusual for there to be resistance on the part of the person needing the services and at Always Home Homecare, we understand that. Respect and maintaining dignity of the client is always our top priority. The care plan is based on the person and what their ideal day looks like. We find out about their likes and dislikes, their background, their family and who they are as a person. The goal is to create a perfect match between the client and caregiver and to build the client-caregiver relationship.
If you have any questions about your loved one, please call our office at 902-405-4400 and ask to speak with Jennifer, our client care manager.
