Nova Scotia Seniors – September… the month of what?!?Posted Sep 06, 2016
So… Turns out that September is a many splendor month!
Among others, Classical Music Month, Fall Hat Month, International Square Dancing Month, National Courtesy Month, Better Breakfast Month, Self Improvement Month and… wait for it… Chicken Month… whaat??
… And… within this wonderful month, each day is commemorative day for something.
It all depends on who you talk to but.. It never hurts to be reminded of certain things in life. Better breakfasts, Self-improvement and Courtesy are all important things to remember.
VJ Day is honoured in September – September 2nd – the day that Japan surrendered in WWII – it’s important to remember all the veterans (on both sides) who sacrificed their lives for their respective countries.
Labour Day – the 5th this year – honouring the worker bees without whom, the wheels on the bus would cease to turn round and round.
International Literacy Day – the 8th – Promoting literacy, which is still an issue, even in this day and age.
911 Remembrance Day – the 11th – I’m sure we all remember where we were on the day the World Trade Towers came down.
International Peace Day – the 21st – the cessation day of any hostilities worldwide – what need we say… Promoting peace
World Gratitude Day – the 21st – we do, absolutely need to live our lives thankful for who we are, what we have learned in life and for life itself.
The Autumn Equinox – the 22nd – The official end of summer, ushering in our wonderful Fall days, especially in Nova Scotia. Good time to howl at the moon.
Oktoberfest – the 27th – YAY! Grab a stein and your Lederhosen and celebrate (Oom Pah Pah!!)
Now we get to the lesser known celebrations – this is a big month for Foodies:
The 1st – National Popover Day, the 2nd, International Bacon Day (yeah!!), Cheese Pizza day on the 5th, National Salami Day on the 7th (should get together with Cheese Pizza Day), Chocolate Milk Shake Day on the 12th and many more – all the way up to National Cherries Jubilee Day on the 24th
Then there are those we shake our heads at:
Be Late for Something Day – the 5th, Neither rain nor Snow Day on the 7th, Teddy Bear Day on the 9th, Defy Superstition Day… can you guess?… the 13th, Play Doh Day the 17th, and Hobbit Day the 22nd !
Pick one or a few and celebrate! No matter what the day, September is a wonderful month to celebrate just about anything… apparently.
Here’s a link to a list of celebrations or make up your own day – the “What About Me Day”
Whether you think it should be celebrated or not, remember that each day in our lives should be celebrated so whatever it takes for that to happen cannot be too silly.
