Happy Birthday Canada!
Posted Jun 28, 2017Happy 150th, Canada!!
… and you thought you were old!
We are celebrating 150 years of confederation – 1867 the British colonies (New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) were united into the Dominion of Canada. July 1st was, up until recently, called Dominion Day.
The country is celebrating and July 1st is approaching. Fireworks are flying off the shelves and Ottawa is bracing for an influx of tourists like none before.
All our National Parks, Marine Conservation and Historic sites are free to everyone this year and if you are planning a camping trip, we would suggest booking early.
In Halifax, the Commons is the place to be – from noon until midnight. Fireworks at Citadel Hill will be seen from there, the center stage is set for an evening concert by nationally recognized local talent. The headliner is Deadmau5 rounded out with Reeny Smith, Rebecca Thomas, rocker Matt Hays, Ashelin, Isabelle Ouillette and more. There is a secondary stage set for daytime entertainment by local multi-cultural entertainers. There are family and kid zones with the usual array of fun things to do.
Parade you ask? Of course, there is a parade – the Tattoo Canada Day parade – starts 11:00 at Scotia Bank Center on the corner of Duke and Brunswick
