Blog Post: Mother’s Day

Posted May 03, 2017

Mother’s Day falls on May 14th this year… there now, you can’t claim to forget. The good news is, you have plenty of time to plan something.

No matter what she says or how old she is, every mother likes to be recognized on Mother’s Day. It can be a difficult time for many of our senior family members who have difficulty with connecting and who are often lonely.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive – a phone call and the words “I love you and appreciate you, Mom” would mean everything to her. Doesn’t even have to be Mother’s Day for that… but particularly on Mother’s Day when we are reminded that we are Moms and why hasn’t anyone thought of us.

If you’re local, a celebratory day with family (perhaps with more than one mom in the group) would be wonderful and a great way to show all the Moms in the family what you think. Pick up Grandma and bring her home for the day. Get her on Face Time with family members who are away and make her smile, though we’re sure she will be smiling anyway.

PS: Lobster is always on sale in Nova Scotia for Mother’s Day (yummm!)

Of course… traditionally, there is always breakfast in bed for Mom, if she can stand the mess in the kitchen later on.

A bouquet of her favourite flowers and a good bottle of wine would be nice. If you wanted to get a little more elaborate, take her to a gallery and then brunch, give her a spa day or buy her a piece of jewellery (doesn’t have to be expensive) – I guarantee you she will wear it… it’s from you.

Think about her favourite hobby(s), whether they be golfing, horseback riding or knitting – contribute something for those. Write her a poem (or a letter of appreciation) – it will be well read… many many many times – folded and re-folded to the point of disintegration.

It doesn’t take much for a child (old or young) to make your parents know that you love them… a kiss, a word and a hug would do it.

It doesn’t really matter what you do but do something. Mom will love it!
